Welcome students, parents, teachers, and staff! We hope you all had a fantastic summer and are ready to get back to learning! This year we have a new librarian, Ms. Claire, who will be joining our amazing library crew. Check out what we’ve been doing this week!

Grades 1 & 2

To remind students how to care for our precious library books, Ms. Isabel read A Perfectly Messed Up Story by Patrick McDonnell. In the book, the main character is shocked to discover his reader is not taking care of his book! Ms. Isabel reminded students that they need to love and protect their library books.

Students also practice using their shelf markers, or memory sticks, to help us keep the library organized while they’re looking for new books. They are able to decorate their shelf markers to make each one special.

Grade 3

Ms. Claire introduced third graders to the book The Bad Guys by Aaron Blabey. This is a funny graphic novel series about animals that are normally seen as villains: a wolf, a snake, a piranha, and a shark, and their adventures trying to be good guy heroes.

Next Friday (August 25), the library will host The Bad Guys movie after school, open to all students. We always encourage students to read the book before seeing the movie! The movie is rated PG and is 1 hour 40 minutes long. It will start at 4pm and will play during the entire ASA time.

Grade 4

Fourth grade started reading book one of the Hilo series, called The Boy Who Crashed to Earth written by Judd Winick. This is a well-known graphic novel series about an alien boy with super powers and his human friends as they go on their daily adventures. Hilo is a hilarious main character trying to learn how to live on Earth!

Grade 5

Grade 5 began reading Click by Kayla Miller, a graphic novel about a fifth grader trying to find her talent so she can shine at the variety show. It seems like all of her friends have already made talent groups without her…could she be brave enough to have an act by herself?

Middle School

Middle schoolers stopped by the library to pick up the textbooks for their classes. The library helped hundreds of students! Thank you to students, parents, and teachers for your patience as the library works hard to accommodate our many students.

High School

Ms. Claire worked with two high school classes this week: Dr. Olerenshaw’s science classes and Mr. Pell’s English classes.

Dr. O’s science classes learned about source evaluation by using the TRAPPED method of analysis to research the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus.

Mr. Pell’s English classes got introduced to dozens of new memoirs and biographies through a fun speed-dating activity! We also began an author study, and Ms. Claire designed a fun “mystery author” activity that let students experience dozens of authors in brief snippets.

Thanks for an amazing week!

See you next week!
