Time for Week 2! Everyone is still getting used to their new schedules but the library is super excited to get to know our students some more! This week we read a new book with grades 1 and 2, finished reading our 3rd grade book, and continued reading our books in 4th and 5th grade. Movie night on Friday afternoon! Read below for details.

Grades 1 & 2

Ms. Isabel read Give Me Back My Book! by Travis Foster and Ethan Long. In this funny tale, Redd and Bloo fight over one book and try to convince the other character that it is theirs. Redd and Bloo teach readers about a table of contents, illustrations, and the beautiful covers that books can have. Eventually they work together to make their own amazing book and learn to share.

Ms. Claire finished reading third graders to the book The Bad Guys by Aaron Blabey. In this finishing chapters, our “bad guy” main characters free hundreds of dogs from a miserable dog pound and discover they really like being good guys.
克莱尔女士为三年级同学朗读完亚伦·布拉贝 (Aaron Blabey) 所著的《坏蛋联盟》一书。 在这本书最后的章节中，我们的“坏人”主角将数百只狗从悲惨的狗收容所中解救出来，并发现它们其实很喜欢做好人。
Ms. Claire let class 3-3 vote on what to read next, now that we’ve finished reading The Bad Guys. Stay tuned next week to see what they voted on! (Hint: It’s another graphic novel! But this time nonfiction!)

Today (Friday, August 25) the library will host The Bad Guys movie after school, open to all students. We always encourage students to read the book before seeing the movie! The movie is rated PG and is 1 hour 40 minutes long. It will start at 4pm and will play during the entire ASA time.

Fourth grade continued reading book one of the Hilo series, called The Boy Who Crashed to Earth written by Judd Winick. In chapter 3, we get to see a little bit of Hilo’s backstory and learn who he was before he crashed to Earth. Next week we’ll see him try to fit in at a normal Earth elementary school!

Grade 5 continued reading Click by Kayla Miller. Last week we learned that Olive’s school is putting on a variety show! This week we read about how Olive’s excitement quickly dwindled when she realized most of her friends already had groups picked out! How will she get out of this lonely funk, and who is Aunt Molly?

Ms. Claire worked with Mr. H’s 7th grade class as they began researching their new class read, Coraline by Neil Gaiman. They also learned about source evaluation to help develop their researching skills.

High School

Mr. Budd’s and Mr. Sanchez’s grade 9 students also had a library lesson about library skills and source evaluation (it’s a hot topic right now). Ms. Claire had students frantically searching the library looking for their books as they practiced finding materials on the shelves. Never be afraid to ask for help! We studied Northwest Pacific Tree Octopus and ended class watching a video about spaghetti harvesting, which was obviously real and definitely not a joke.

Bad Guys Movie Night
On Friday the library hosted its first movie night! We chose to watch The Bad Guys (2022) because our third grade classes just finished reading them. The kids were so excited to watch! We had an amazing turnout, with over 75 students! The library will definitely be hosting more movie nights in the future.
