Happy holidays everyone! We hope that students are able to enjoy and celebrate with their families next week. Here’s how the library spent the short week.

First and second graders learned about bullying and the importance of standing up for what’s right in the book One by Kathryn Otoshi. Our main character, Blue, is not confident and wishes they could be more like the other colors. Red is a big bully who always says, “Red is hot. Blue is not.” Although the other colors comfort Blue when Red is mean, they never tell Red to stop saying hurtful words. Then comes One, who teaches the other colors to stand up for themselves and to stop bullying when they see it.

This was our last week reading El Deafo by Cece Bell! In this week’s reading, Cece struggles with fitting in at a sleepover birthday party and is worried that her friends secretly don’t like her. Another big change in Cece’s life was taking sign language lessons! Although she really hated it at first, she soon comes to realize that sign language is beautiful and can be really useful! Third graders learned some sign language with Ms. Claire by watching a tutorial video.

Fifth grade finished reading Click by Kayla Miller! Olive finally became confident in her choices and learned how to stand up for what she wanted. She found a way to help all of her friend groups with the variety show and still stayed true to herself. You can read more of Olive’s adventures in other books by Kayla Miller!
