Happy Thanksgiving! We hope this week our students reflected on how thankful they are for each other, their family and friends, their teachers and school, and maybe their favorite books!

This beautiful paper-art style book takes us through a whole year as a girl remembers and writes things she is thankful for. In the fall she is thankful for warm and cozy things; in the winter she is thankful for snow; in the spring she is thankful for fresh clean things; in the summer she is thankful for friends and fun. No matter the season, time, or place, we can always find something to be thankful for!

The girl in the story makes a paper chain throughout the year. When she remembers something she is thankful for, she writes it on a piece of paper and attaches it to the chain until it is very long and drapes around her windows. Each student contributed their own thankful paper to make their own paper chain for their class, which was displayed on the windows in the library.

Ms. Claire has been reading a lot of mermaid books recently! A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow is a YA book about a mermaid and a siren fighting to have a normal life in California while also facing the many struggles experienced by African Americans because of their race.
