Welcome to December! This week we’ve focused on loving the outdoors, even when things are brown and cold.

Younger Primary

Younger primary students learned a few new words with this week’s book: “collection” and “extraordinary!” To begin the lesson, we discussed what it means to have a collection or to collect something. A lot of students told me about their collections! In The Collectors by Alice Feagan, adventurers Rosie and Winslow trek across the forest and up a mountain to try to find something extraordinary to complete their collection of natural wonders.

Older Primary

Our older primary students tried something new this week: a first chapter preview! Because a lot of the Panda Book Award books are longer chapter books, Ms. Claire will be reading the first chapter or so of the next several books so our students can get a taste of all the other great titles. Soon our Panda Book Award books will arrive and our students can choose which ones they’d like to read! The first chapter preview this week came from Lia Park and the Missing Jewel by Jenna Yoon. In the first chapter, we meet Lia, who is a 12-year-old girl living in California preparing for a big exam to enter the International Magic Agency school. The only problem? She hasn’t gotten her magic power yet! Will she get a magic power in time for the entrance exam, or will she have to adjust to life with no-magic people? Read the rest of the book to find out!

Ms. Claire is Reading

This week Ms. Claire is reading a nonfiction book! A Cloud a Day by Gavis Pretor-Pinney is an inspiring tribute to the beauty of clouds, both in nature and in art. Each page has stunning photos or paintings of clouds, accompanied by either scientific descriptions of the phenomena or a poetic excerpt from literature marveling at the grandeur of clouds. So often ignored, this book really makes you appreciate those fluffy puffs above!

Gavis Pretor-Pinney 的《A Cloud a Day》是对自然和艺术中云之美的鼓舞人心的致敬。

Thanks for an amazing week!

See you next week!
