Ms. Ray took our younger primary students on an adventure to find treasure! In a library game, that is. Students had to answer library questions correctly to move across the digital game board and reach the treasure at the end! The reading room was full of excitement as the students jumped up and down, ready to share their answers!

We read chapters 4-6 this week in our book Saving Sorya: Chang and the Sun Bear by Trang Nguyen and Jeet Zdung. Now Chang is on the hunt for a suitable home for Sorya, who has grown big enough to practice her survival skills in the wild. The problem? Humans have destroyed almost every forest nearby, whether due to farming, flooding, logging, or construction. Will Sorya ever be able to return to and live in the wild?

It’s been a while since we’ve done a lesson with high school students, but this week Ms. Claire worked with Ms. Holliday’s class for their study of fairy tale retellings, or “fractured” fairy tales. To get some inspiration for their assignment of writing their own fractured fairy tale, Ms. Holliday’s students looked through dozens of fairy tale retelling picture books. What a fun idea!

Ms. Claire is Reading

Speaking of fairy tale retellings…I have been reading a fairy tale retelling myself! Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust is a retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It’s full of adventure and tension and magic–in this version, the main character actually has powers over snow and can turn it into anything she wants or needs! A very helpful skill while on the run from a murderous queen.

Thanks for an amazing week!

See you next week!
