Color is closely related to our emotions, and when we feel different emotions, we also feel like different colors. The Color Monster by Anna Llenas teaches us that each of us has a color monster friend: a red monster means anger, a yellow monster means happiness, a blue monster means sadness, a green monster means calm, a pink monster means care and love, and a black monster means fear. Students got to color their own color monsters after the story to share how they were feeling.

I’m reading outside of my comfort zone this week! Instead of my usual YA fantasy novel, this week I’m reading an adult horror novel about a father who is looking for the truth about his son’s murder. The Changeling by Victor Lavalle is “a thrilling and emotionally devastating journey through the gruesome legacies that threaten to devour us and the homely, messy magic that saves us, if we’re lucky.”
