What an exciting week! From a library lesson livestream to Character Day on Friday, our librarians are so happy we get to share all this excitement with our students!

Character Day 角色日

We have SO MUCH to share about Character Day! So much, in fact, that all the information and photos from the events will be in their own post. Click this link here for the Character Day post, or click the photo banner below.

Younger Primary G1-2

Our G1 students enjoyed Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds to celebrate Character Day. The carrots that grow in Crackenhopper Field are the fattest and crispiest around and Jasper Rabbit cannot resist pulling some to eat each time he passes by–until he begins hearing and seeing creepy carrots wherever he goes.

In G2 we read The Smart Cookie by Jory John and Pete Oswald. This cookie has never felt like a smart cookie no matter how hard she tries, especially in comparison to all the clever cupcakes and brilliant rolls in the bakery! Will a dash of creativity and a sprinkle of confidence be enough to help her learn that perfect scores and having all the answers aren’t the only ingredients for intelligence?

Buddy Reading with G1-5 & G6-2

As a lead-up to Character Day on Friday, Mr. Peter Armstrong’s G6-2 class was invited to come do a buddy reading activity with Ms. Maybelle’s G1-5 class in Library C. It was so fun to see our secondary students be great reading role models to our primary students. It warmed our hearts! We will definitely do more of this activity in the future.

Older Primary G3-5

This week started a chapter book called Princess Cora and the Crocodile by Laura Amy Schlitz, a fun story that captured the attention of every student. Princess Cora wants to be free! She doesn’t want to take 3 baths a day, she doesn’t like reading dull books, and she’s tired from skipping rope all day. We know some of our primary students feel the same way! Let’s see how Princess Cora breaks out of the castle with the help from her new pet–a crocodile!

Library A 图书馆 A

This Tuesday the library hosted a livestream lesson so viewers could get an idea of what it’s like to be a student at THISDL. In this lesson, Ms. Claire worked with Dr. Signorini’s class to give a demonstration of how to use our databases for their upcoming projects about Spanish colonization and some background research before beginning Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I am deeply grateful to the students and marketing team for making it such a smooth process!

Thanks for an amazing week!

See you next week!
