This week younger primary read the picture book Kid Christmas of the Claus Brothers Toy Store by David Litchfield. The story follows Nicky Claus, who works alongside his three uncles in a magical toy shop. When Nicky sees a child unable to afford a toy, he comes up with an incredible idea, and with the help of his uncles and some flying reindeer, the legend of Father Christmas begins.

We began reading about Christmas in a non-fiction book that explores how people celebrate Christmas around the world, starting with Australia. Since Australia experiences the opposite season to countries in the Northern Hemisphere, its Christmas traditions differ from those of many countries we are familiar with. We also confirmed some details from the book with our Australian students and teachers, and they turned out to be true!
