This week our library learners focused on power: the power of names, the power of working hard, the power of chasing your dreams, and the power of technology. Come discover how these forces influence our lives, drive our ambitions, and connect us to the world.

Younger Primary G1-2

Our younger primary students reviewed a very important part of reading: recognizing the main character! Students showed their knowledge by naming popular main characters that they knew, such as Nezha, Olaf, and Minecraft. We also read a Caldecott-honored picture book, Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal–a heartwarming book about the power of names and their histories.

Older Primary G3-5

Nezha has been one of the most popular topic recently among our kids, and we know the director of this movie had a hard time before the success. This week we read the fairy tale “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” which has some similarities to the story of Jiaozi. The story is about persistence, kindness and reward. We also talked about how we would write the story if we were an author or director.

Several high school classes stopped by the library this week to pick up new textbooks for the spring semester and new projects. Both Ms. Parker’s and Ms. Holliday’s classes will be starting The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which is a short novel about a boy who chases his dream, travels the world, and searches for treasure. Mr. Pell’s World Literature class did some library research to enhance their current project studying what it means to be human in the age of artificial intelligence. What a doozy!
