2025-26 Panda Book Award Nominees

The time has come to announce new new nominees for the Panda Book Award! Many of these are new titles, so our THISDL libraries don’t have them in stock yet, but keep an eye out for them at upcoming book fairs. These lists look amazing, so we can’t wait to read them!

Younger Primary G1-2

What a delightful week in first grade! Our young readers explored Waiting by Kevin Henkes, a tender story about five patient toys observing the gentle rhythms of life from their windowsill perch. This special book earned the Caldecott Honor, one of the highest awards for outstanding artwork in children’s literature. It was truly heartwarming to see the children’s faces light up as they connected with the story’s quiet charm and learned how beautiful waiting can be.

Our clever second graders just finished The New Kid—the first book in A.I. Newton’s The Alien Next Door series—where they discovered Zeke’s mysterious secret (could he really be an alien?!). Now that you’ve solved this cosmic mystery, don’t stop exploring! The library has the rest of the series waiting for you, packed with even more intergalactic adventures and friendship surprises.

Older Primary G3-5

Our older elementary students explored the wild world of humor fiction by diving into the hilarious Awesome Friendly Spooky Story by Jeff Kinney. They discovered how authors use silly exaggerations and playful storytelling to make us laugh—then put their own creativity to work with funny predictions and even wrote their own endings! Best of all? The classroom was full of giggles and “Aha!” moments as they fell in love with reading in a whole new way.
