Now that we’re on the other side of May holiday, time is flying! With all the busy activities and events happening in the upcoming weeks, try taking a moment to sit down a read a book. You’ll find that soon your scurrying mind will settle and your heart will be at ease.

Younger Primary G1-2

This week, we practiced the skill “I can write my opinion about this book” using the fun picture book Duck! Rabbit! and the interesting nonfiction book Hedgehog or Porcupine? We talked about what opinions are, how to find true facts in nonfiction books, and even explored a great website to help us learn more: FactSurfer. It was a fun and thoughtful week of reading and discovery!

Older Primary G3-5

This week, our older students enjoyed The Story of Chocolate from the Usborne Young Reading series. These books are usually tucked away in a quiet corner, but their fun stories and colorful illustrations quickly caught everyone’s attention. By the end of the week, the series was almost completely checked out—what a sweet success!

It is with a heavy yet hopeful heart that I announce the end of secondary book checkout for this semester. Your librarians always work very hard at the end of the school year to track down and organize all the library books, which takes a lot of time! This was the last week for checkout, and ALL books are due on Friday, May 30th. But don’t be too sad–you still have three weeks to read the books you already have checked out. Ms. Claire would be happy to help you find any book you wish either online or available for purchase.

What are your librarians reading?

To honor Arab-American heritage month, Ms. Claire recently finished reading We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal. In this ancient-Arabia-inspired fantasy we meet two “flames”: Zafira, the revered Hunter whose mysterious identity scares the king but protects her people, and Nasir, the son of the tyrannical king and trained assassin. On the brink of war, the two of them work together to restore the magic that has disappeared from their land.

Thanks for an amazing week!

See you next week!
