Although this is the last week of school for our seniors, we will always keep them in our hearts! We hope that wherever their journey takes them, they will still find wonderful stories and adventures in the pages of a book.

Younger Primary G1-2

Many of our first grade students understand the frustration of being in a new school and not understanding the language–which is the exact experience of Dat in the book Gibberish by Young Vo. Dat explains that since he doesn’t understand the language, everything sounds like gibberish to him! But with the help of a kind new friend, things slowly begin to make sense. Students also took note of the symbolism in the book: the first pages of the book are black and white, and the pictures get more colorful as Dat learns the language and starts making friends!

After a brief introduction to the fantasy genre, our second grade readers dove into a fun fantasy book from the Billy and the Mini Monsters series called Monsters Move House. Billy is moving to a new home—but the Mini Monsters get lost along the way! How will Billy ever find them again? And just when things couldn’t get more confusing, a brand-new monster shows up on the scene…

Older Primary G3-5

This week, we read the first part of the African fable How the Leopard Got His Claws by Chinua Achebe. The animals in the forest worked together to build a shelter for the rainy season, but the dog and the duck refused to help. When a flood destroyed the dog’s cave, he had nowhere to go and rushed to the common shelter. The dog was the only animal in the forest with sharp teeth and claws, so he easily bit everyone and threw them out—including the kind Leopard. When Leopard asked the others to help him stand up to the dog, they all turned their backs on him. Even though the students begged to hear the rest of the story, we’ll have to keep that secret until next week. How will it end??

Library A 图书馆 A

We had a special guest in Library A this week–a drone! The library will be part of the school’s new drone-filmed campus tour. Thank you to everyone who participated in the filming and made the video possible! We can’t wait to see the result!

We are one week closer to the library book due date! Your librarians have been busy getting the library ready for summer holiday, which unfortunately means putting away our usual book displays until August. For now we’ve replaced the displays with colorful reminders to return your library books. If you have any questions about returning your library books, please ask Ms. Claire!

What are your librarians reading?

Over the past year, Ms. Claire has realized that our students love scary books! One of her goals this summer is to read more horror, mystery, and supernatural so that by August she is ready with more book recommendations! This week she’s reading Sisters of the Lost Marsh by Lucy Strange–a historical story about six sisters whose superstitious (and possibly cursed!) family suffer the lost of their eldest sister. But is she truly gone?

Thanks for an amazing week!

See you next week!
