Who ate the moon? That’s the mystery we explored as we read A Big Mooncake for Little Star by Grace Lin to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. This sweet and funny story had the children giggling with delight, and it was also the perfect time to introduce the Caldecott Award—an honor Grace Lin has proudly received for her beautiful work.

Moon Messenger by Jie Wei tells the story of Maomao, a young boy missing his father while he’s away on a business trip. The story blends fantasy and adventure in a vivid world where dreams and reality meet, leading to moments of wonder and self-discovery. With their own holiday and family celebration to look forward to, students connected to the story and thought about their own journeys.

After learning about the Panda Book Awards, grade three students read The Day the Crayon’s Quit by Drew Daywalt. This book has important themes about communication, so our students wrote letters either to or from the crayons in the story.
在了解熊猫图书奖后，三年级学生共读了德鲁·戴沃特的《小蜡笔大罢工》。这本书围绕沟通主题展开深刻探讨，同学们通过故事中蜡笔的视角，纷纷化身小信使，以书信形式与蜡笔展开跨越书页的对话。
The Truth about Dragons by Julie Leung, a newer nominee for the Panda Book Awards, is about dragons from the East and the West. Readers learn about two rich cultures, both celebrating dragons, and their beautiful similiarities and differences. What would your dragon be like? Students ended class by designing their own dragon.
