Happy Thanksgiving! We are thankful for every day with our students, the wonderful books surrounding us in the library, and the privilege to be able to experience so many incredible stories.

With the wild hustle and bustle of life, it can be easy to forget all the wonderful blessings we have. In The Gratitude Jar, a family starts a new tradition of writing down things they’re grateful for and keeping it in a special jar. Seeing the jar every day helps remind the family to be grateful for all the good in their lives. After reading the story, students created their own Gratitude Jar with Ms. Rui!

Celebrating Thanksgiving usually means spending time with extended family! But how do you take care of your family once they arrive? How to Babysit Grandma is a playful spin on responsibility during family time. Remember to be grateful for every moment with your family!

Older Primary G3-5

Following the 15th China National Games that took place in Southern China from Nov 9-21, the 3rd and 4th graders read two books about sports. In My Weird School Fast Facts – Sports the two school kids explained how James Naismith invented a new game with peach baskets–the first baskets in basketball! Then in National Geographic’s Everything Sports we learned all about the construction of balls and pucks. At the end of our readings, students answered questions in a quiz about the China National Games.

Most of us walk through life not really noticing and appreciating the little details of the world around us. CJ, the boy in Last Stop on Market Street, is the same way until his grandmother reminds him to be grateful for all the small blessings we often overlook. This emotional story shows us that even when life isn’t perfect it’s important to help others and give back to the community. One of the greatest picture books about gratitude!
