Number Jumble by Tony Bradman is a fun and clever story about numbers getting mixed up in surprising ways. As the characters try to solve the mix-ups, readers are invited to think carefully about numbers, patterns, and problem-solving. It’s a playful way to celebrate Math and Science Week, reminding students that math can be full of puzzles, creativity, and discovery!

During Math and Science Week, we’re always asking “What if?” questions and wondering what amazing things we can discover–both on Earth and in outer space! In The Alien Next Door: The New Kid by A.I. Newton, human boy Harris thinks his new neighbor might be an alien! But before he can know for sure, he has to observe and gather evidence to prove his hypothesis!

As a special focus for Math and Science Week, we read about a famous primatologist in The Watcher: Jane Goodall’s Life with the Chimps by Jeanette Winter. The story began with a young girl who was so fascinated with animals that she waited hours on end for a hen to lay an egg. Her later life took her to Gombe, Tanzania where she earned the trust of a group of chimpanzees and studied their daily habits closely. She saw them picking up branches and using them as tools to catch tasty termites. Before Jane Goodall’s research people thought only humans used tools, but now she had documented that animals also use them. Jane also saw the destruction of the chimp’s habitat and wanted animals in the wild to be protected. She travelled the world giving talks in cities and towns (coming to China several times) to speak up for animals, until her death at the age of 91 in 2025.
本周,为了配合“数学与科学周”,我们一起阅读了珍妮特·温特(Jeanette Winter)的作品——《观察者:珍·古道尔与黑猩猩的生活》(The Watcher: Jane Goodall’s Life with the Chimps)。
