Library Rules

Checkout Procedures

Primary students are able to check out two English books and two Chinese books at a time (textbooks not included). We encourage students to return their books during their weekly library time so that they are able to check out books after story time. Students are also able to check out books during WIN time or after school. The checkout period for books is two weeks.

Secondary students are able to check out three books at a time (textbooks not included). Students can check out books during WIN time, self-study, after school, or even passing periods. The checkout period for books is two weeks.

High School Volunteers

High school students are able to volunteer in either the A or C library after school to earn credit towards their service hours. They can earn 90 minutes by working from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. To sign up for C library (primary library) duty, please contact Ms. Jessica Piao 朴香兰 at jessicapiao@thisdl.edu.cn. To sign up for A library (secondary library) duty, please contact Ms. Abby Zhao 赵梓楠 at abbyzhao@thisdl.edu.cn.

Volunteers should not be doing homework and should regularly walk around the library to help monitor the area. Library duty includes supervising the primary students to make sure they are not running, jumping, screaming, etc. as well as helping them with homework or reading stories to them. At 5:15pm, volunteers will help the library staff manage the students who need to take the bus home or go to the gate to get picked up. Once the children have left, volunteers will help clean the library by putting away books, picking up trash, or tidying our tables, chairs, and beanbags.

Fines & Fees

There are no fines at our THISDL libraries. If a book is overdue, we simply ask that you return it. Students are not able to check out new books if they have an overdue book. They can check out new books as soon as the overdue book is returned.

If a student damages or loses a library book, they will be asked to pay a replacement fee that covers the cost of replacing the book. Until this fee is paid, the student will not be able to check out new books. Once the replacement fee has been paid and proof is shown to the library, the student will be able to check out library books again. Replacement fees CANNOT be refunded once they have been paid.
