Students of all ages should learn how to research! Research skills can be valuable to primary students wanting to learn about their favorite animal to pre-college students writing literary criticism. This page offers some useful information and tutorials for all our students. Read below to find out how to access and research using our databases, how to evaluate sources for quality information, and how to create a citation list.
Our Databases
Our THISDL libraries offer two databases available to students: Britannica School and JSTOR. They focus on a variety of subject matters and specializations. These sources are used worldwide and are manageable for growing and curious students!
Click the database logo to access online. Both of our databases are available on the school’s wifi.
Source Evaluation
Our librarians would love to teach your class about source evaluation! Feel free to schedule a library lesson or use our amazing resources! Scroll to the bottom of the page to listen to Ms. Dong’s lesson on source evaluation using TRAPPED.
Feel free to use this presentation to help your students practice source evaluation. Included is a guided activity, followed by group work as students investigate a source.
TRAPPED
We use the acronym TRAPPED to help remember what questions we should ask when analyzing a source. This is included in the presentation above, or you can download one of the following graphics. If you’d like your students to practice TRAPPED on their own, I’ve included a worksheet with columns to fill in on one side and the TRAPPED definitions on the back side.
