My School Trip by Aly G. Mays is a short picture book about a visit to a butterfly garden with a new friend. Students learned some new words and phrases, such as trip, partner, wished, and at last.
What Does It Mean to be Kind? by Rana DiOrio also talks about a new student and how small actions can help others feel welcomed and included. A great story for the topic of Values!

Mr. Pell’s classes visited the library this week to explore researching the old fashioned way–with books! Students found materials to help build background knowledge for their upcoming reads of Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and Please Look After Mom by Shin Kyung-sook.

Her little dream of saving the homeless cats off the street becomes complicated as dark wizards are suddenly on her doorstep and hunting her for information about an ancient magical text.
