This week’s SEL topic was Values. After reading the story of Clark the Shark by Bruce Hale, our students thought about how Clark’s choices affected his friends and discussed the values that helped him become a better friend—including kindness, respect, listening, and self-control. Students finished by sharing their own lesson from Clark: “Clark taught me that ___ is important because ___.” A wonderful reminder that stories can help us grow as both readers and friends!

Secondary Library

Library A has some new books on display! Notice at the top there is a series called Forensic Footprints of Ancient Worlds–these books talk about how modern science has helped researchers uncover secrets about the past. That’s not the only forensic connection in the library this week! Ms. Stormy’s forensic science students came by to take some samples from the “library crime scene” and to practice their own investigation skills.

Ms. Claire
Book of Forbidden Words by Louise Fein. Two women, two continents, hundreds of years apart. One, creating a code to preserve a feminist story of a matriarchal utopia; the other, deciphering her hidden work amidst nationalist paranoia in a post-WWII America.
