Charming friends Bunny and Hedgehog help us appreciate the transition from summer to autumn in When Will Fall Arrive? by Sanne Miltenburg. We also learned about an important science concept: hibernation. Hedgehog must sleep through the winter when the first leaves fall, but Bunny is determined to keep his friend awake so they can be together. Our readers laughed at his silly plans—like hiding all the fallen leaves in his cellar and painting the red ones green—and cheered when he found the perfect solution to keep them close. This story of Bunny and Headehog show us examples of empathy, problem-solving, and the true meaning of friendship. We also talked about the signs of autumn we can see outside our own windows!

Inclusion, our SEL topic of the month, can mean many things! G3-3 focused on our “voice”–our ideas and opinions)–how we can help others find their voice, and what we can do to make ours louder. We listened to Just Help! by Sonia Sotomayor. We were able to see students, just like us, using their voice in their actions, and not just by speaking, to help their community. This book showed us that our actions to help our community is using our voice to help ourselves and others.

In G3-4, we read the story How This Book Was Made by Mac Barnett. This fun book looks over the writing and publishing process and details the authors writing and publishing journey. During this story, students were able to relate their experience writing to the author’s, comparing the drafting and editing processes to their latest writing project.
在 G3-4 班,我们阅读了 Mac Barnett 所著的《How This Book Was Made》。

Have you ever noticed that sometimes friends can be complete opposites? G3-5 practiced comparing and contrasting characters through Today I Will Fly! by Mo Willems. We explored Gerald and Piggie’s words, actions, and personalities, using clues from the text and illustrations to discuss how they are alike and different. Together, students organized their ideas in a Venn diagram, building their reading comprehension and discussion skills.

We’ve moved! You might notice that the circulation desk in the hallway near Library A looks a bit empty–that’s because Ms. Claire and Ms. Cai have moved to the new circulation area inside the library! There are two big desks near the west doors of the library–you can’t miss it! Stop by and say hello!
